\The in-game artifact system can be confusing, and the game itself doesn't offer much help, leaving many players wondering how to get better gear and increase their power.
This comprehensive guide breaks down everything you need to know about artifacts, assuming you know nothing about the system. We will cover set effects, farming locations, and the entire upgrading process in organized chapters to help you master your gear.

Understanding the Basics: What Are Artifacts and Set Effects?
Every artifact in the game provides a bonus effect that can be either always active or conditional. These are called set effects.
Each artifact belongs to a specific equipment slot, and you cannot equip two artifacts that occupy the same slot. For example, the "Resolute Conjunction" artifact set is only available in the first slot and cannot be equipped in any other.
If you're unsure which set is best for your character, the game has a helpful "Recommended" button that lists three sets that work well for each slot, along with their recommended attributes.
How to Farm Artifacts: Your Guide to Singularity: Chaos
Once you've decided on a set, you'll need to farm for it. Currently, the only way to consistently farm artifacts is through the Singularity: Chaos game mode, which is one of the three Realm of the IX activities. As your team level increases, your reward level also goes up, allowing you to get better artifacts. At reward level 8, you will exclusively get Mythic and Exotic rarity artifacts.
You can farm artifacts in this mode without using your pinnacle energy, though some specific resources are locked behind its use.
The "Wish" System: Targeting Your Perfect Set
Before starting a run in Singularity: Chaos, you must "wish" for the artifact sets you want to receive. You can open a menu that lists every artifact in the game and select one set for each of the four slots. This significantly increases the likelihood that the artifacts you have chosen will drop during your run.
Running the Activity
After setting your wishes, you can run the activity as many times as you like. The difficulty of the portals you choose during the mission influences how many chests you get at the end:
Normal stages give you 1 chest.
Heroic stages give you 2 chests.
Master stages give you 3 chests.
Maximize Your Power: A Deep Dive into Upgrading Artifacts
Once you've equipped your desired set, it's time to upgrade it. For artifacts below gear level 80, you can upgrade them up to that level. Assuming you have gear level 80 artifacts, you have three main upgrade options.
Part 1: Enhancing Your Artifact (+0 to +10)
Similar to enhancing weapons, you can use a material called Artifactual Dust to level up your artifact from +0 to +10. This provides a direct increase to the artifact's power and can double the amount of attribute score it provides.
Part 2: Understanding Attributes and Attribute Score
Attributes provide bonuses that become stronger as you upgrade them. The rarity of an artifact determines how many attributes it has:
Legendaries provide 2 attributes.
Mythics provide 3 attributes.
Exotics provide 4 attributes.
You can increase an attribute's tier by equipping multiple artifacts with the same attribute. For example, if your first slot provides 76 Health Boost and your second slot provides 104, your total of 180 will give you tier 8 Health Boost.
Part 3: The Attribute Refractor (Rerolling Scores)
When an artifact drops, each attribute score is randomly rolled between 35 and 55. You can reroll these scores using the Attribute Refractor. Each reroll costs Artifactual Dust (100 Rare, 2 Legendary, or 1 Mythic) and a small amount of glimmer. After rerolling, you can choose to keep your old attribute scores or accept the new ones.
There is also a luck system that helps you get higher rolls after a certain number of attempts. This luck is tracked for each artifact separately and resets once you get a better roll. For Exotic artifacts, refracting costs 2 Artifactual Essence, a material that can drop by spending pinnacle energy in Singularity: Chaos, along with more Artifactual Dust.
Part 4: Attribute Transfer (Swapping Stats)

If you have an artifact with great attribute scores but the wrong attributes, you can use Attribute Transfer. This allows you to transfer a set of desired attributes from a "donor" artifact onto your main one. The donor artifact is destroyed in the process.
A helpful detail to note is that if you swap your artifact with another of the same name and rarity, the enhancement upgrades will automatically carry over. However, attribute levels do not transfer this way.
Advanced Concepts: Set Effect Levels and Icons Explained
Set Effect Level
Your artifact set effects start at level 1 and can be upgraded. The level increases once the total attribute score of all your equipped artifacts reaches certain thresholds, regardless of what the attributes are. Meeting these thresholds will upgrade the set effects for all four of your artifacts.
Understanding the Icons
You may see one or two icons next to the attribute score on an artifact.

The First Icon (Usability): This indicates if the attributes are useful for your current character. A silver icon means half the attributes are universal, while a gold icon means all attributes are usable or recommended for that character.
The Second Icon (Roll Quality): If present, this icon indicates the quality of the initial attribute score roll. A silver icon means the average score is over 70% of the maximum, while gold means it is over 90%.
